Health & Genetic Assurance

At Greenstone, the health and well-being of our Labradors is our top priority. While Labradors are generally a healthy breed, responsible breeders recognize that all dogs can be prone to certain genetic or developmental conditions. Through careful selection, rigorous health testing, and responsible breeding practices, we strive to minimize risks and produce strong, healthy, and well-adjusted puppies.

We utilize the latest genetic testing and veterinary screenings to reduce the likelihood of inherited conditions. Our breeding dogs undergo thorough evaluations for eyes, hips, elbows, and key genetic disorders, ensuring that our puppies have the best possible start in life.

Eye Health

All of our breeding dogs receive annual exams from board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists, with results submitted to the Canine Eye Registry Foundation (CERF). These exams include detailed assessments of the retina, lens, cornea, and other eye structures to detect potential hereditary conditions early.

Joint Health

Hip Dysplasia and Elbow Dysplasia are conditions that can affect large, active breeds. At Greenstone, we carefully screen all breeding dogs through radiographic evaluations and select only those with healthy hips and elbows. We also manage puppy nutrition and growth to support optimal joint development, reducing the risk of orthopedic issues later in life.

Genetic Disorders

We test for important inherited conditions, ensuring all our puppies are free from:

  • Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC): A neuromuscular disorder triggered by intense activity

  • Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis (HNPK): A condition affecting the nose

  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA/PRD): A condition that can cause vision loss or blindness.

Through genetic testing, we can confidently guarantee all Greenstone puppies are not affected by these conditions. By combining careful breeding, comprehensive health testing, and twenty years of experience in this breed, coupled with the best vetrinary care, we aim to produce Labradors that are physically sound, mentally strong, and ready to thrive as beloved family companions, service dogs, or performance partners. Our goal is to give every Greenstone dogs the best chance at a long, healthy life.
