At Greenstone Labradors, our philosophy on temperament isn't just based on breed standards—it’s based on our lives. For over 25 years, we have raised seven children, now ages 15 to 33, alongside our Labradors. This unique journey has allowed us to refine our breeding program to produce what we believe is the perfect family companion: a dog defined by unwavering dependability and athletic capability.
The Gentleman’s Gun Dog
We breed for a dog with enough spirit to hang with a busy family or serve as a classic gentleman's gun dog in the morning duck blind. Labradors were intended to be steady and capable, never restless. A Greenstone Labrador has the heart and focus to work a field with poise, yet the discernment to come home and be a gentle, grounding presence for a child. This balance is no accident; it is the result of over two decades of family-tested breeding and a deep respect for the breed's versatile, level-headed nature.
Demonstrated Performance
The reliability of our temperament is proven every day, both in the ring and in our community. Our youngest daughter, Dylan (age 8), helps us handle our Labradors and is already finding her own success in the show ring. Her ability to work in partnership with our dogs at such a young age is the ultimate proof of the focus and "eager-to-please" nature we prioritize. It shows that a Greenstone Lab is a capable, patient partner even for a young child.
Beyond the ring, our dogs have been remarkably successful as service dogs and therapy dogs. Our own dogs actively participate in the Kerr County Comfort Dogs program. Their work as service animals is a testament to their ability to provide emotional support and a calming presence to children and families in need. This service-level quality ensures that our dogs are sturdy enough for backyard adventures, yet intuitive enough to offer deep-pressure comfort and emotional security.
