Removing Dew Claws

This is a question we are asked from time to time.  The answer is NO.

There are a couple of reason why we do not.  First, studies have been done that now show the important purpose of the dew claws.  They need them! We have never had a torn dew claw.  But there are studies showing that dogs without dew claws have more foot injuries and are more prone to arthritis.  The the largest percentage of foot and toe injuries are caused by nails that aren't kept trimmed and filed.
